Dargaville High School Trades Academy New Zealand

Trades Academy

Schools in Tai Tokerau have come together to provide a new government initiative: Trades in Schools.

The Tai Tokerau Trades Academy provides a place for students wanting to learn a trade to focus on this while still at High School, getting the jump on their competitors by completing theory and practical that count toward a National Trade Certificate and their NCEA accreditation. Students must be involved in a minimum of 15 hours of trades specific learning which can be a combination of practical and theory based teaching.

The Trades Academy differs from school subject courses as they are almost an entire programe in themselves. Students will spend most school periods involved in their academy work, be it practical or theory orientated.

Housebuilding

Dargaville High School offers Housebuilding through the BCITO theory package and ventures out into the community to give the students access to practical experience. This course also offers Health and Safety units through Northtec, First Aid training and the ramset course.
