Dargaville High School Sports Curriculum

Sports

Sport provides opportunities for personal fitness, self-discipline and development of team play. Competition teams represent the school in rugby, netball, soccer, swimming, athletics, cross-country, equestrian, basketball, cricket and volleyball.

Years 9 and 10 have timetabled Physical Education lessons. Years 11, 12 and 13 can opt to take Physical Education.

The school has a well-equipped gymnasium, large playing fields, floodlit Astro grass surface (suitable for netball, tennis and hockey), weight training room and a heated indoor swimming pool. The 22 metre indoor swimming pool is fully utilised by the school and the local swimming club. The gymnasium incorporates a climbing wall for budding rock climbers.

Cricket is also a popular sport - Dargaville High School's First XI play in a men's league. The First XI is made up from a mixture of juniors, seniors and a few Dargaville old boys.

The school is fortunate enough to have a Sports Coordinator. His job role is co-ordination of all sports within the school and within the district. The Sports Coordinator works closely with Sports Northland, keeping Dargaville High School at the forefront of the sporting field.

We have a few rugby league players amongst our pupils who are gaining regional recognition for their talents. Rugby is also an important part of our extra-curricular activities and we have parents to thank for their contribution to our sporting program.

Also, thanks to parents, we have an Equestrian team and a trap-shooting team - part of our extra-curricular activities program.
